Linda Smith (Jasso) VIEW PROFILE

Linda Smith (Jasso)

Linda was born in Kansas City, MO to Robert and Gladys Smith.  A graduate of Southwest High School and UMKC, Linda  married Michael Jasso of Sugar Creek and together they had two sons Eric and Andrew.  Mike and Linda were married for almost 50 years until his passing in 2019.  They enjoyed traveling and visiting family and friends.  Most of which revolved around the schedule of The Missouri Tigers and Kansas City Chiefs.

Linda worked at Montgomery Ward Department Store before settling into a long career as a municipal payroll clerk for the city of Sugar Creek, MO.  Most citizens knew that paying their utility bill would likely entail a 30 minute conversation with Linda where she would boast and brag about anything and everything her two boys had been up to, whether you had already heard the stories or not.  Linda was a talented artist and enjoyed most any type of arts and craft project.  But her true passion was her family.

She devoted most of her time to her sons and their academics and athletics.

Most summers consisted of baseball tournaments and track meets.  Most falls and winters were devoted to football, wrestling meets and basketball games.

Linda dealt with complications from multiple cancer diagnosis’ and Multiple Sclerosis for most of her adult life but that didn’t deter her from always being as involved as possible with her family, her sons and their friends.  Most of whom knew a simple “hello” wouldn’t cut it when visiting their home in Sugar Creek, she wanted to know EVERYTHING.

Linda was the embodiment of perseverance and a silent hero to most who knew her and witnessed her overcoming these obstacles every day.  Linda is preceded in death by her parents Bob and Gladys, husband Mike and brother Robert.

She is survived by sister Beverly, sons Eric, Andy and his wife Katherine, grandson Anthony and many many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held August 20th 2022 between 4-6 PM at Ophelia’s Restaurant & Inn, 201 N Main St in Independence, MO.  In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to The Multiple Sclerosis Association of America.

I have many good memories of Linda, especially in the earlier days at SWHS. I remember a sleep-over at Cathy Dwiggans house in 8th grade when 5 or 6 of us girls stayed up most of the night playing music, dancing, eating junk food...and maybe talking a little about boys (ha-ha). I reconnected with her at the 50th reunion and talked to her on the phone a few times after that. As most moms do, we spent most of the time talking about our kids. She was so proud of her boys and grateful for the joy they brought to her and Mike. Linda was a kind and sweet person, and I'm very sorry to hear of her passing.
